Created in May 1861, during the opening weeks of the American Civil War and shortly after the attack on Fort Sumter, Our Banner in the Sky transforms the American landscape into a powerful vision of the national flag. Glowing clouds form its red and white stripes, the blue sky becomes a field of stars, and a bare tree rises like a flagstaff against the horizon.

Frederic Edwin Church, a leading figure of the Hudson River School, was celebrated for his luminous landscapes, dramatic skies, and ability to give nature symbolic meaning. Rather than depicting soldiers or battle, Church used light, cloud, and landscape to express courage, unity, liberty, and hope.

No generative AI was used to recreate, redraw, or reinterpret the image. The restoration was guided by human judgment with the aim of preserving the authentic visual language and spirit of Frederic Edwin Church's original work.

Protective Glazing

Each framed print is glazed with a high-clarity acrylic protective surface, offering excellent UV resistance and impact protection while preserving the artwork's tonal depth and color accuracy.

Conservation Grade Mat

This edition is presented without a mat as standard, allowing the artwork to occupy the full image area for a stronger and more immediate presentation.

Clean the frame and protective surface gently with a soft, dry cloth. Do not apply liquid cleaners directly to the artwork or frame.
